Yep, there is “good” and “bad” in all things…
Pros
Having flexibility is pretty sweet. You can work when you want, you can play when you want. You don’t really need to worry about the hours of your Doctor, Dentist, etc. because you can take a break and go whenever your appointment is.
Cons
Having flexibility is pretty dangerous. You can work when you want, you can play when you want. You need to be careful to NOT take too much fun time, though. After all, this is what pays your bills, you need to take it as seriously as if you were working in a standard office environment and get the needed work done. You can simply be more flexible about when you do said work.
You can have more time for self development and improvement. If a class you want to take is in the middle of the day, you can stop working, go take the class and come back and finish your work.
Because you are so flexible, there is the danger of overdoing it. Taking too many classes, learning too many new skills can cut dramatically into your work load and stress you out as if you were working a 9-5 office gig.
You can be as productive as you want or can be. There is no one interrupting you for meetings so you can easily hammer out your work and have more free time.
If you don’t buckle down and schedule properly or if you are “chatting” on your phone for hours, watching non-relevant YouTube videos or otherwise slacking off, you may end up in quite the pickle.
You can still be part of a team. If you have a partner or other people helping out, like marketing guys or a VA, you can still connect with them whether they are in the same space or another state.
Also, some spaces are very collaborative and may have people there who will gladly give you a hand when needed, whether as advice or a small fee.
If you are the kind of person who prefers face to face over Facebook, Google Groups, etc., you may have a hard time at a CoWorking space that your associates are not at or at a space that is not very collaborative.
Balancing your work/life existence can be tough no matter what. But, with a CoWorking space, you can better balance it because you are in control and so long as you can stay in control, you should be good.
Remember, you want to go to a play in the middle of the day, you can go and come back to work. Want to spend time with the family, plan for it and make it happen.
On the other hand, you have no time clock to punch, no one over your head reminding you “your shift is over”, it’s all up to you. It happens to easy, you get wrapped up in a project and forget the play or family time.
This one is neither a pro or con based on where you work, but staying organized wherever you work can be a challenge. Other then working on being more organized and finding what works for you, there is no magic pill for this one.
